Why Should Artists Blog
The short answer is that I can’t think of a better way of advancing your art career online. An artists blog is the best way I know of bringing your work to a larger audience. Once you have this audience your artists blog will help you to stay in touch with them by sharing your ideas and philosophy, by explaining about your work and why you do it, how you do it, where you do it, what motivates you to do it, invite your readers to join you on the blog by commenting on your writings and how they relate to their experiences.
What to write about in your blog is a question that most artists new to blogging ask. I hear you say “I’m a visual artist if I was good with words I would be a poet or an author” Well, look back at my last paragraph and start by answering those questions. I promise that once you get started you will find writing your blog will become much easier. You don’t need to write chapters for every post. It is much better to write small 250/500 word posts often than one huge chapter every month. This way you will keep the interest of your readers and they will turn up at your blog on a regular basis to see what you have to say and what you have been up to with your art.
If you already have an art blog then I am preaching to the converted, but if you are contemplating starting a blog you will need to know how to go about it.
There are a number of blogging platforms you could look into, but my advice is to go with WordPress. WordPress is the most versatile and is easy to set up. The easiest way is to have someone set it up for you. When I was researching this article I found a new resource that will do everything for you. I found this site at the Blog Factory. All you have to do is apply for a domain name at Godaddy and apply for hosting. You would have to do this anyway, but the Blog Factory take you through the process so that you do it quickly without making any mistakes. I believe that your first month of hosting will only cost 1cent. So if you don’t like it, it has cost next to nothing. After the first month everything costs the same as if you had set up your own blog. But your art blog has been set up professionally with plug-ins and widgets and with a free premium theme. Your blog has Social Profiles added and is SEO ready. These are all things that are fiddly to do and take up time. You will also receive over 3 hours of training on how to use your blog, if you want it. This seems to me a great package when you consider what you get for the same price as it would cost to do the job yourself. Why not try it out? Here’s the link again BLOG FACTORY.
